Bluebird Self Storage Opens New Locations in Toronto, Whitby & Burlington

author

Bluebird Self Storage has officially opened three new stores in Ontario including Toronto, Whitby and Burlington, ON

Since 1983, the team that founded Bluebird Self Storage in Canada has developed and managed almost 100 institutional Class ‘A’ storage facilities across North America. The company has been the preferred developer and vendor to the self-storage industries developing real estate investment trusts (REITS) in the United States and Canada. Adopting the name ‘Bluebird Self Storage’ to encompass Canadian operations, the company is expected to double the size of its current 11 store chain within the next 6 months.

Self-storage is a recession-resistant industry and has become a prized asset by the real estate investment world,” Bluebird principal Reade DeCurtins said. “We’ve expanded our Canadian operations into Montréal, Calgary and Edmonton and are slated open in Vancouver first quarter of 2021. We are Canada’s most progressive self-storage concept and we're making a push to be the most recognized.

“Bluebird Self Storage facilities’ modern design features a tower logo that's architecturally based on a birdhouse. Progressive design elements enhance architectural features that tie in with the neighbourhoods in which they operate,“ he added.

According to DeCurtins, “Bluebird is the culmination of our decades of experience in this industry in the U.S. and Canada. We’ve created an engaging brand and design aesthetic that sets us apart from our competition. The off-putting industrial buildings and creepy locations that have previously defined the industry are not what today’s educated self-storage customers are looking for. Bluebird identifies high-profile retail real estate for new locations. Our focus is then developing the most modern and inviting stores in the industry. Having modern stores with the most progressive and easy to use on-line rental tools, has proven to be a winning combination with Canadian consumers.”

COVID-19 Protocols

To further protect clientele during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bluebird has implemented precautions including the closing of any store office exposed to a confirmed case of COVID and having it cleaned and sanitized for reopening. Social distancing rules are in place for store associates and clients. Employees are washing/sanitizing hands frequently and wearing masks whenever other people are present. With no more than two staff members in the retail area, it is rare for customers to encounter others. For the ultimate in safety, Bluebird offers the opportunity to book and rent a storage space online. Storage renters receive a code with a building map in a breakaway seal.

New Locations

Toronto, ON (https://bluebirdstorage.ca/facilities/toronto-don-mills/) Bluebird Self Storage, in partnership with NYX Capital Corp., opened a flagship facility at 1450 Don Mills Rd. (south of York Mills Rd.) in Toronto. A retrofit of the former National Post building, the 151,000 net rentable square feet (NRSF) facility is located near Highway 401 and the Don Valley Parkway.

Said NYX Capital Corp. CEO Yashar Fatehi, “Self-storage has proven to be a stable asset class when it comes to market down turns. We witnessed this during the 2008 recession when self storage was the only asset class not affected. During Covid-19 our occupancies have not been reduced, which confirms that sell storage is indeed recession resistant.”
