In 1990, Charlie joined Sovran Self Storage (now Life Storage) as Vice President of Property Management. In 1995, he was promoted to Senior Vice President – Property Management. In this role, Charlie increased income from $ 4.5 million to $ 46 million and increased financial occupancy from 70% to 90%. Charlie also served as Senior Vice President – Development / Construction with responsibility to create and organize this new division with a mission to construct new space, redevelop existing space into climate control, heavy maintenance, and to administer all zoning / planning and real estate legal matters. Throughout his career, Charlie has specialized in marketing, operations, acquisition due diligence, disaster clean up and turnaround situations. In 2000, Charlie joined Storage Investment Management, Inc. (SIMI) as Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the daily operations of the management portfolio, feasibility studies, due diligence, acquisitions, financial analysis, budgeting and contract management relations and administration. In 2001, he became a full partner/principal and in 2018, Charlie became President of the company. Charlie has served on the MASSA board for 14 years and the CTSSA board for 10 years, most recently as President. He continues to serve as a director and treasurer for the new Northeast Self Storage Association.
